Hieu Minh Writes a Heartfelt Letter to Vietnamese Fans: “My Tears Fell for the Color of the Jersey”
Following a severe injury during the semi-final against China at the 2026 U23 Asian Cup, defender Nguyen Hieu Minh has officially reached out to supporters. In an emotional update, the young star clarified that his tears on the pitch were not caused by the agony of a torn ligament, but by the heartbreak of no longer being able to fight alongside his teammates for the national flag.

A Heartbreaking Moment on the Field
The incident occurred in the first half when Hieu Minh collided heavily with an opponent. While attempting to clear the ball, his knee twisted unnaturally, leaving the 1.84m center-back in visible distress. Medical reports have since confirmed a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL), an injury that will require surgery and approximately 6 to 9 months of rehabilitation.

Writing from a place of reflection, the Thach That-born player shared: “Yesterday, the tears I shed were not because of physical pain, but because of the haunting remorse of not being able to stay on the field. I feel guilty for not being able to dedicate myself fully to the colors I carry in my heart with such pride.”
He urged the public to remain patient and supportive of the U23 squad despite the disappointing result. “The outcome of the match was not what anyone wanted. We played with total determination. I hope the fans can be tolerant and understanding, giving the team the spiritual strength to rise again,” Hieu Minh added.

The Journey to Recovery
As a core member of the defense alongside Pham Ly Duc and Nguyen Nhat Minh, Hieu Minh’s absence is a significant blow to Vietnam’s tactical structure. However, the player remains optimistic. He is scheduled to return to Vietnam shortly to undergo surgery.
“I promise to put all my will into the recovery process to return to the pitch stronger. To the Vietnamese fans who have sent me messages of encouragement: your love is the greatest motivation for me to stand firm during these difficult days,” the defender concluded.
